Steve was with Best Buy for over 19 years. Holding the leadership position of Vice President – Sales Development, Planning and Communications, he was responsible for development and execution of sales strategies and operating models for Major Appliances, Music and Movies, Video Games, Car Entertainment and GPS, and Musical Instruments. He partnered with vendors, merchants and retail to develop merchandising and selling strategies in the Video Games category resulting in 300% improvement in revenue and profitability.
He streamlined communication tools and processes while reducing staff by 25%. The outcome resulted in more effective and timely communications and substantial improvements in retail productivity.
As Senior Director – Retail Training and Leadership Development, Steve directed the complete rebuild of Best Buy’s training and development program. His organization was responsible for content development, deployment and facilitation. He also co-developed the talent pipeline process and multi-level leadership development curriculum. The program resulted in a stronger linear correlation between participation and business unit performance.
Steve partnered with a 3rd party provider to develop a fully integrated web based training suite including applications for – Web 2.0 social networking, user generated content uploading, outside of firewall access, certification, content rating and fully integrated search capabilities.
As Director of Customer Centricity – Sales Development and Training, his team developed a suite of training programs to deploy Best Buy’s multi-billion dollar Customer Centricity transformation - Including fully integrated selling strategies for all product categories with customer segment and life style groups. Developed and deployed leadership transformation and business acumen training programs to initiate retail and corporate employees into the new business model.
As Director – Sales Development, Training and Retail Process Management for Musicland, a Best Buy company, Steve directed a team of leaders responsible for sales culture transformation, performance management, scorecards and measurements, and category profit pool maximization.
